At The Cottage, we provide residential home care (also known as in-home care or domiciliary care) to our residents. Trained, experienced caregivers are present 24/7, offering personalized care tailored to their specific needs in the comfort of the home. In most cases, The Cottage can be more cost-effective compared to nursing homes or assisted living, as it eliminates the overhead expenses associated with maintaining a facility.

24/7 individualized care
Our experienced care team will always be present to keep our residents company and provide them with individualized care at a 1:4 caregiver-client ratio. At The Cottage, we simply ask them what they want, and how they want it. In addition, if your loved one needs home health or hospice, we are happy to help you arrange the services to come to them.

Small town, country setting
At The Cottage, our residents are encouraged to continue to live their everyday, regular life in our regular home. Unlike most assisted living facilities and nursing homes, residents of The Cottage may enjoy a county-side setting near Lake Athens. In true East Texas form, we even have livestock grazing the eight acres our home resides on!

At-home environment
Because The Cottage homes no more than four full-time residents and one visiting resident, your loved one can build intimate relationships. Our caregivers will know and pay attention to their unique needs, helping them to feel as safe and cared for as they would if they were still at home. Housemates may partake in programs and activities, such as Chess Club, together.

At The Cottage, we offer a 1:4 caregiver-client ratio.
Per Texas Health and Human Services, nursing facilities must maintain a ratio (for every 24-hour period) of one licensed nursing staff person for each 20 residents. In addition, assisted living facilities facility must have staffing policies (undefined via THHS website), which require staffing ratios based upon residents’ needs.

As the resident’s level of care increases, the resident will be required to pay for additional care. For information regarding fees for each level, please email or call us directly.
Below are the levels of care available:
Level 1: The resident is able to perform all activities of daily living.
Level 2: The resident needs assistance with showering, toileting, and dressing.
Level 3: The resident needs all of the above care, and the resident is incontinent and/or needing total transfers.
